Turtle Beach • Siesta Key, Florida

These images are from Turtle Beach, which is located on the southern end of Siesta Key.  The sand here is polar opposite of the white powder found just a short distance north at Siesta Key Beach.  Turtle Beach sand is primarily composed of crushed shells, which makes it much more abrasive… but still beautiful.  The beach is famous for the abundance of seashells that wash up on the shore.  Aimee and I walked about 2 miles on the beach collecting shells.  I’ve never see so many great seashells on a beach before!  Great fun…

Siesta Key Beach • Sarasota, Florida

Siesta Key Beach has accumulated numerous awards over the years and is consistently rated as one of the top beaches in Florida and even the world.  The sand is unbelievable soft, clean and white…  It feels like your walking on powdered sugar…  Harvard University did a study on the sand and determined that is was 99% quartz.  (What a great place to come do a study, right?)

Aimee and I spent a couple of days out here relaxing and enjoying the beach.  It was wonderful…

ATCEMS Swiftwater Rescue Training • New Braunfels, Texas

The Austin-Travis County EMS Special Operations – Rescue Academy is drawing to a close this week.  The new Rescue Paramedics have spent the last 6-weeks learning the ropes (pun intended) of Special Operations.  This morning I had the opportunity to take a few photos during their last day of swiftwater rescue training on the Guadalupe River.

WXNW Christian Music Festival • Concordia University

The Concordia University Accelerated Degree Program organized the 1st Annual West by Northwest (WXNW) Christian Music Festival on March 20, 2010. The evening featured six sets by local Christian performers and art created by local artists. All proceeds from the evening were donated to Water to Thrive, a local non-profit that digs wells to provide fresh water to the people of rural Africa.

Bud Cahill, pictured above, closed the show with an energy filled electronic violin and mixed beats performance.
